What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work in much the same way. They help websites remember settings and understand how they are used.
What we use
| Type | Purpose | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Remembering your unit choice (metric or US) and keeping the site secure | Local storage item cic-units; security cookies set by our hosting provider |
| Analytics | Counting visits and seeing which pages are useful, in aggregate | Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*), if enabled |
| Advertising | Showing ads and limiting how often you see them; personalising ads where you allow it | Google AdSense and its partners, if enabled |
We never place the numbers you enter into calculators in cookies.
Your choices
- Consent banner. Where required by law, you will be asked before non-essential cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time.
- Browser settings. You can block or delete cookies in your browser. The calculators still work without them; you may simply need to pick your units again.
- Advertising. Opt out of personalised ads at Google Ads Settings or youronlinechoices.eu.
- Analytics. Google offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics.
